Working predominantly with members of the Geomatics Group within the School of Engineering, you will provide field-based and classroom-based technical support to research, teaching and engagement activities in Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing. You will be responsible for the maintenance and operation of field equipment and software for ground-based radar, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) sensor systems, and terrestrial laser scanning. On occasion you will deliver and supervise, in conjunction with other staff, undergraduate residential field courses and field/project work.
You will be educated to Bachelor’s degree level in GIS, remote sensing or a related field (e.g. surveying/geomatics, civil engineering, electrical/electronic engineering, computing science, physics, physical geography, Earth sciences) and must have relevant work experience or study experience involving GIS or remote sensing techniques.
You must have excellent communication, numeracy and IT skills, and the capability to acquire advanced technical skills in GIS and the maintenance and operation of ground-based radar, UAV remote sensing platforms and sensors, and laser scanners. You must be able to safely manage heavy equipment, sometimes on rough terrain, and have a driving licence valid in the UK.
