The School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning at Arizona State University invites applications for one full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor position with an anticipated start date of August 2019. We are particularly interested in applicants with a research focus in geographic information science and expertise in advanced spatial analytical techniques. The successful candidate will join a dynamic faculty working closely with colleagues in the new Spatial Analysis Research Center (SPARC) to advance innovative and interdisciplinary GIScience. As part of ASU’s significant new investment in the spatial sciences, SPARC members will work to position ASU as a world leader in developing, applying, and teaching spatial-science techniques, lead developments of scientific methods, and advance the capacity of GIScience to generate new knowledge and innovative solutions through collaboration across disciplines. These positions are part of a cluster hire which began two years ago.
The successful candidate will teach GIS and spatial analytical undergraduate courses to geography, planning, and GIS majors, as well as contribute to doctoral programs and the Masters in GIS. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous, externally-funded research program, generate peer-reviewed research, engage undergraduate and graduate students through effective teaching, participate in service to the university and profession, and build productive relationships with faculty both within and beyond the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning.Initial deadline for accepting applications is October 28, 2018.
